PDP RISKS LOSING NORTHERN SUPPORT AS YOUTH REJECT 2027 ZONING TO THE SOUTH

the Joint Action Committee of Northern Youth Associations (JACON) has issued a stern warning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rejecting the party’s decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

At a press conference held at the NUT-Endwell Hotel, Magadishu Layout, Kaduna, JACON described the zoning move as a betrayal of trust and an outright marginalization of the North, which has consistently delivered massive votes to the PDP since 1999.

Ambassador Sanin Yaya, Director of Media and Public Affairs of JACON, who spoke on behalf of the coalition, accused the PDP of sidelining the North despite its loyalty:

For sixteen years, the PDP held power on the strength of Northern votes. Yet, the North produced a president for only two and a half years, while the South enjoyed over thirteen years. To now zone the 2027 ticket back to the South is nothing short of injustice.

JACON declared that only zoning the ticket to the North would correct this imbalance and warned of “grave political consequences” if the party failed to review its decision.

The committee’s resolutions include:

1. Total rejection of the 2027 PDP zoning arrangement in favor of the South.

2. Demand that the ticket be zoned to the North for fairness and equity.

3. Warning that the North will mobilize its structures to respond decisively at the polls. The coalition further revealed plans to convene an emergency meeting of all member associations to craft a strategic response. It also called on political, traditional, and religious leaders in the North to resist what it termed “a brazen act of exclusion.”

The group concluded with a strong message: “The North is not a political beast of burden. We demand our rightful place in the leadership of this country.”
